Computer Question
Am running Windows 10 and discovered today that there are 50 odd background processes and 94 Windows processes on task manager. Is this too high and if so is there something you can buy to filter out the ones that are unnecessary? Looked it up on google and it suggests going through them one by one. if you "end task" on them all could this be a bad idea as some of them refuse to end I am assuming these are the critical ones and the computer will remain functioning and the ones that are surplus to requirement will disappear? Or would they all just return again on the next restart? Thanks in advance

Re: Computer Question
I shouldn't read these threads as I get side tracked. I was 50% of the way of putting linux mint on my new build. Have a spare 75GB drive lying around but I was supposed to be doing something else.

Missus stopped me as its her new machine I built...

Ok back to the normal crap.

SoS,

on you laptop click on the start button and type in msconfig, in the general tab select selective startup, it will the services you need rather than a normal boot up which loads all drivers and services.

Re: Computer Question
Need Windows for some of the work I do at home and my wife prefers it but dual boot Linux for most other stuff. Especially when I used to try to deal with dodgy streams, felt a lot safer.

Re: Computer Question
The worst that will happen is your PC will restart.
Or reinstall Windows.

This is good

Re: Computer Question
That many processes isn't exceptional. Unless you have problems, I wouldn't worry.

I agree about Linux Mint. I don't have Windows on any of my home computers now.

Re: Computer Question
Download Linux Mint and run it alongside Windows so you can toggle between them, In time you'll wonder what that Windows OS was.

Re: Computer Question
It's normal, just look for the applications using the most CPU and memory to see what's hogging the system and kill them if you don't need it but don't randomly shutdown processes you nothing about, otherwise it could put your system in an unstable state.

Try deleting the EU thread from ‘westhamonline.net’ in your browser.

That should free up some space
